Razer has introduced a new gaming tablet at CES called Project Fionna! This is the first pure gaming tablet we have seen and runs on the Intel i7 Ivy Bridge Processor and functions in the Windows 8 Environment. This machine really a ton of sense from a video game point of view and the fact it runs Windows means most PC games will run properly. The one standout feature this unit offers is dual controllers on each side with 4 buttons and a directional pad on each side.
The concept tablet by Razer features a 10.1 inch screen with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels! It will feature 5-point multitouch on a capacitive screen which makes it easy to interact with. Audio is played by official THX certified speakers which really brings to life the mid and low range of music and sounds. What i really liked was the dual controllers featured on the left and right sides, this is a refreshing gamble on the standard touchscreen interface.
Razer is mainly known for gaming hardware such as specialty mice and keyboards, this will be their first tablet they are shopping around. The company is hoping to attract some serious venders into committing to their platform. I really think the company is onto something and will have no problem getting people interested in the hardware. The reason is gaming is big business and recently companies like Gamestop has gotten into the habit of carrying tablets in their store to play games with. Ideally for a gaming company like this, you would want to peddle a product designed for gaming. Razer is highly regarded in the industry and most serious people who play MMORPG’s such as Old Republic, WOW and RIFT will love the ability to play their characters, check auctions and run small quests while on the go. The demo we played with at CES had Warhammer Space Marine and with the dual analog controllers felt so natural. There was no stuttering or lag at all, which led me to believe this tablet was beefed up with RAM and a solid state drive. The company told us that it will eventually retail for under $1000.00.
